Hey everyone! Jason Hornung, here! In this video and blog, you're going to discover 3 IMPORTANT tips for successful targeting with Facebook ads.
Now, the reason you want to pay attention to this video and information is really important.
The majority of people that I have talked to over the years concerning Facebook ads, they always want to find out how to target. They think that targeting, targeting, targeting is their BIG problem.
BUT…
What you're going to learn in this video is 3 things that aren't really talked about often in terms of targeting, but will make a HUGE difference in your success with your ads.
Ready?
Let's get into it!
Know Your Audience 👥
The 1st tip that I have for you is to know your audience (also known as your ideal customer)
Let me tell you a story about this particular subject.
I get invited to speak all over the world with large groups of entrepreneurs that are looking to run successful Facebook ads, and that's all because of the success that we've had over the years for our clients.
In the beginning of each of these presentations, I like to ask the audience to raise their hand if they know EXACTLY who their ideal customer is.
The most recent time that I did that, I was peaking in front of about 400 people at an event in Austin, Texas and about 10 people in the room raised their hand.
The REST of them had NO idea who their ideal customer was.
Then, I asked this question. “How many of you have actually created profitable ads?”
Would you believe it when I told you that the exact same 10 people left their hands up and everyone else had their hands down?
Well, believe it!
The 400 people in this room all have businesses that they run, specifically, they were E-Comm Business owners.
None of them except for that select 10 were making money with their ads. None of them except for that select 10 knew anything about their ideal customer.
The Most Common Mistake ❌
In all my years and ad dollars spent, I have learned that the main reason most people that are having problems with their targeting is because they don't know their ideal customer and who that is.
There's a reason you really need to know exactly who you ideal client is because it comes in a two fold with your targeting, because if you don't know who your ideal market is, you won't know what Facebook fan pages they're hanging out on. If you don't know where they're hanging out on Facebook, you won't know where to begin to know where to show your ads.
So, if you don't know who your ideal client is… that means you don't know what they like or where they're hanging out online, which means you're never going to be able to find the right targets.
KNOW YOUR IDEAL CLIENT.
Copy Is King 👑
This piece of targeting advice will probably be the most profound piece of information that you'll learn in this particular video and blog, and that is…
COPY IS KING.
Targeting actually has very little to do with the setting and the fan pages on Facebook.
Don't get me wrong, that definitely helps. That's going to amplify your results.
But, targeting actually start and stops primarily with your messaging, like the copy that you're using on your ads.
So…
If you don't know your ideal customer, you won't know:
- What they want
- The benefits they're looking for
- What problems they have and want to solve
- How your particular product is going to solve that problem for them.
Your product is either going to give them something they want, or take away something they don't want in their life.
If you don't know that, you'll never be able to put together ad copy that's going to target your audience.
Story Time:
This is going to show you why your messaging is so much more important than the fan pages.
We have clients where we actually use NO targeting.
None.
We're not even going after a fan page.
We're just putting demographics on there because we know our ideal client so well.
These particular clients have demographics in extremely broad markets and we can go really broad with out targeting.
But, when we put the right message out there and the people that it's intended for, find it and respond to it, it becomes profitable.
Pixel = Profit 💰
The 2nd tip I want to share with you for successful targeting is…
Use the pixel!
Now, some of you may be asking yourself, “What the heck is the pixel?”
The pixel is a little piece of code that Facebook gives every ad account that you can then put on your website pages.
The pixel will perform a few different functions for you.
- First, it'll actually feed data back to Facebook that they will use to help optimize your campaign. They're going to help to see the people that are converting, and they'll actually start to show ads to the people who are your ideal customer.
- Second, you can a ton of retargeting audiences and you can execute advanced strategies that allow you to remarket to your ideal customer and bring them back into the fold. It simply allows you to amplify the results that you're using.
Most people that I talk to don't have the pixel on their website, let alone are they trying to structure their campaigns in a way that use the pixel to get this optimization where Facebook will go out and start to find their ideal customer for them.
So, make sure that you're using the pixel.
Build Your Own Audiences 🏗
The 3rd and final tip for successful Facebook targeting (and this is so, so, so, important right now), is to build your own audiences.
This is the second piece of what the pixel does for you.
For example, when people visit your website and they go to the page that has your pixel on it, the pixel puts a little cookie on them, which will tell you inside of the Facebook Ads manager what pages they've visited.
So, if you have a marketing funnel where you're doing some form of lead generation and you're driving traffic to an opt-in page, you can actually see all the people that have visited that opt-in page.
From there, you can create an audience off of those people and then you can send another ad to those specific people.
What's happening with Facebook right now is that it's becoming more and more competitive when it comes to ads
So, if you're not build what they call “custom audiences” and remarketing to people, you're going to continue to compete with everybody else on all of the fan pages that are out there, which in turn drives your costs way up.
That's why you've probably seen people complaining about the costs of Facebook ads. It's because they're not building their own audiences and eliminating that factor of competition.
The Result? 📊
These are 3 absolutely essential pro tips that you can use with targeting for success with your Facebook ads.
If you implement all of these, you're going to see your results go up and your costs go down.
ROI will be good, and so will your relationship with Facebook Ads.
I look forward to seeing your success.
This is Jason Hornung.
To the Victor, be the spoils.
